The flap has a magnetic, metal clip that latches onto one of four anchor bars on the pack. This means that you can adjust how tight the top flap is, depending on how much is in the backpack—this allows for another eight liters of storage. Or, any bag big enough, for example, a tote, can be a camera bag. I use some of my old (over 10 years) Domke or Billingham bags, remove all the dividers, and use a protective cloth to protect the cameras or lenses and configure whatever I need for each outing. Peak has received more coverage, but it’s spread over a variety of different product categories including straps and their Capture Clip. I forget the model and they don’t seem to make it anymore. However, bags like their 25L Blackhole Backpack or 8L Ultralight Blackhole Sling are worth consideration. Perhaps not the lightest of the light, but a good balance between weight, comfort and durability. We aren’t kidding when we say this pocket is easy to forget (though we recommend keeping better track of your passport). While V2 is an improvement (the gap is a lot smaller), it’s still an issue.
That allows for customization via different belt sizes, replacement if damaged, and removal for airline transport. And if the hip belt is sold separately, the price of the pack alone will barely increase for those who don't want the belt (just relatively-minor reinforcement to the pack to allow attachment). The improvements Peak Design have made to the comfort and usability of the bag have been quite worthwhile in my opinion.
